In October this year I braved 89 miles of 100 degree heat to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Over the course of the summer I collected $4,400 and participated in the annual Ride to Cure Diabetes
, where bicycle riders ride up to 105-miles through Death Valley in one day. I am the father of a 15 year old daughter who has been diabetic since 4. This year I rode 89 miles of the 105 mile course before dehydration and head winds did me in. My participation was a triumph, though, as earlier this year I had a bad fall while training and broke both elbows!
It’s just a little bike ride, just one day in life. Breaking the elbows was a little inconvenient for a while. All easy compared to a life with diabetes.
I do plan on riding in 2008. Let me know if you’d like to donate, learn more about JDRF or go for a little bike ride in the desert!
Oh, I lend on prosper too.
(Editor’s Note: Congratulations Mike and best wishes for your daughter.)
